Hey all, want to setup a frontend on an oldish (P3 700Mhz) laptop. No internal CD-ROM, but I do have an external USB one. Of course, my BIOS doesn't allow for USB boot.

I have come across ways to make regular KNOPPIX boot off a floppy, but I can't seem to get it to work specifically with Koppmyth. I can get the kernel started but then it just dumps me to a "very limited" shell and that's it.

Any ideas? A different guide for KNOPPIX floppy boots?

Can you boot from the network?

I think your "ways to make regular KNOPPIX boot off a floppy" don't include USB. Is that true? I have just been investigating this myself and the current show-stopper is that Knoppix (and some other distros) aren't able to mount a USB disk after they have done their initial startup. I have also seen a remedy for this but it involves some hacking--taking apart miniroot.gz and reassembling it with the USB drivers.

On the other hand, if you're willing to copy the 500MB image to the hard drive, you can make it work that way, too. At least the Knoppix version I tried it with did. Don't know about the specific one Knoppmyth is built on. But this things interest me and I just may try it.
