Just installed R5A16 on an athlon based box to use a a remote frontend that has used R4V4 and 5 just fine with the ati remote (after me manually installing it as per instructions from the many threads in here).

Long story short, the R5A16 install doesn't use the remote. It will if and only if I unplug the receiver from the USB and then plug-it-back-in... then it works, but each keypress is multiplied. So if I hit down, it goes down 2 or 3 menu items.

Here is some info from the /var/log/messages that caught my eye
Code:
Sep 11 15:03:05 submyth kernel: hub 2-0:1.0: USB hub found
Sep 11 15:03:05 submyth kernel: hub 2-0:1.0: 2 ports detected

Sep 11 15:03:05 submyth kernel: usb 1-1: khubd timed out on ep0in

Sep 11 15:03:05 submyth kernel: usb 1-1: khubd timed out on ep0out
Sep 11 15:03:05 submyth kernel: usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
Sep 11 15:03:05 submyth kernel: USB Mass Storage support registered.

Like I said, I know the remote works with this hardware (worked great with R4V5. I'd be glad to provide info from other logs, whatever if anyone has some ideas about this.

Hardware details: athlon tbird 800 mhz, Asus A7M266 board, 20 gig ATA drive, 2x256 PC2700 curcial ram, Geforce4 MX w/ 64 meg for TV out.

Thanks in advance!

I hate to say this, but search the forum this one has been covered a few times and the answers are more complicated than I care to duplicate here.

I found lots of ati remote threads, but nothing that mirrors my situation (I think). Do you have a link to a thread that describes the process you're thinking about?

Thanks man!

I think this one covers just about all the old ones, it doesn't mention any problems about it not being detected until it's replugged I haven't heard that one before, however it does mention the sensitivity issue.
