when i try a manual install after it formats hda1 and copies files it says knoppmyth was successfully installed to hd. then it dumps to a prompt. Shouldnt it reboot on its own like auto. should i just reboot it manually or is there a command it should execute next?

When i tried that all i got was a blank screen in the end. I discovered in the wiki that its because i needed to install newer drivers for my nvidia card. so now it all better. Except when i CTL-ALT-F2 to see a console i get a blank screen but i know theres an answer some where on the forum.

Have you tried accessing the box remotely using ssh? If you have another linux box this is trivial.

If you only have a MS-Windows box you'll need to get a copy of putty or something similar. There's info here and on the wiki about setting up putty to access your KnoppMyth box.

Once you've done that the first thing to fix is the vga setting in /etc/lilo.conf (search for more details) this should make your other virtual console sessions work better when you switch to them using Ctl-Alt-F1, or Ctl-Alt-F2, or ...
