hardware:
PVR250
ati rage 128
bx chipset mobo
pIII 1gig

software:
knoppmyth r4v2

I can't seem to get my tuner to work. It worked in windows, so I know the card/tuner is good. I've tried changing the PCI slots and I still get a blank screen when trying to watch live tv.
I've tried 0-8 for the tuner input type using the test_ioctl command, but no luck with any of them.

I tried getting the r4 version of knoppmyth but that didn't work either, I had the same results.

anyone got any ideas? please...
any tips are appreciated..

Perhaps starting the frontend in an xterm and quitting You should see some output. Have you checked the log? Saying I have a blank screen w/ nothing else don't give much information.

I've checked the output from the xterm.. didn't see anything usefull.
but I'm posting some output from dmesg and the mythbackend log below
But the good news is, last night I found out that it's atleast working..
because when I do a cat /dev/video0 > foo.mpg it actually works.. I can play that video on my other system. I just can't watch live tv, I can also play the video on the local machine.

here is some of my dmesg output:

"ivtv: 100 ms time out waiting for firmware "
Sorry, I cannot think of an accurate solution. Please check the tvtv archive.

Hi,

> ivtv: 100 ms time out waiting for firmware
I had these errors during my installation disasters the last days several times. If I recall right it's either a wrong firmware (a) or the wrong tuner in the ivtv settings (b).

(a) can be solved in extracting the firmware from the PVR CD calling 'ivtvfwextract.pl /cdrom'

(b) depends on your PVR
call 'modprobe tveeprom' gives you some output in /var/log/messages

Feb 11 20:58:49 mythtv kernel: tvee: Hauppauge: model=48134, rev=J347, serial#=6819038
Feb 11 20:58:49 mythtv kernel: tvee: tuner=LG TP18PSB01D (idx=47, type=28)
Feb 11 20:58:49 mythtv kernel: tvee: tuner fmt=PAL(B/G) (eeprom=0x04, v4l2=0x00000007)
Feb 11 20:58:49 mythtv kernel: tvee: audio_processor=CS5331 (type=9)

In my case line 2 tells us tuner is type=28 and I'm in PAL land (line 3)

My /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv looks like this

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
options ivtv ivtv_debug=1 ivtv_pal=1 tuner=28
options tuner pal=1
options saa7127 enable_output=1 output_select=0 pal=1
options msp3400 once=1 simple=1
add below ivtv msp3400 saa7115 saa7127 tuner
add above ivtv lirc_dev lirc_i2c ivtv-fb
post-install ivtv /usr/local/bin/test_ioctl -d /dev/video0 -u 0xff

More details can be found @ http://ivtv.writeme.ch

Cu,
dev
