I tried installing on 2 computers, a Dell Dimension 2400 and a budget sempron and its been running for 25 minutes and i am just now writing /etc/fstab

It is soooo slow that the screen is blanking on install. I think its the kernel. becuase after the hardware probing (ACPI namely) it goes really really slow.

I am d/l kbuntu to see if it has the same problem...

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a bad burn.

After more expirimentation, it turns out that the CD/DVD drives no longer like my media. I changed media (after doing 3 burns from the same spindle) and it works beatifully!!!!

It really was weird because everything was fine and silent... but I let it run for about an hour and eventually it started spitting out /dev/hdc errors. (meanwhile the drive light was blinking occasionally)
