Post subject:  Adding a second PVR-250

I'm just curious since I'm gonna snag another PVR-250 next time they're on sale: Can I just basically plug the card in and have it recognized automatically (except for the Myth settings of course) or will I need to monkey with modules/config files? I'm just wondering if anything special is done to set-up dual cards during the initial install or if an existing system will recognize everything automatically.

BTW - anyone know of any good deals on a PVR-250 right now?

Thanks!
Mike

Just add it... It should be found and the modules will be setup for you.

Is this also true of the WINTV-401?

Besides the remote (& price) what is the difference between the PVR-250 and WINTV-401?

I already have a functioning remote with my LeadTech WinFast 2000 Deluxe.

I am just looking to add a second tuner with btaudio support.

newegg.com
WINTV-401 $75
PVR-250 $140

Thanks,
Mike G.

It is true of any card supported by Linux/KnoppMyth. The difference is software encoding(401) vs hardware encoding(250) and the quality of the capture. The 250 is better.

The decision has been made - PVR-250!

Thanks for the input.

and I can tell you a leadtek and pvr250 work fine together. That's what I run in my system, however I did opt to go with the pvr250 grey remote, I just like it better than the one that came with the leadtek and the fact that it's the one setup out of the box on knoppmyth didn't hurt either.

Post subject:  problem with second pvr card

I just added a pvr-250 with the already existing pvr-350 I had already in my system. I set up the card by running mythtv-setup and adding /dev/video1

If I record a show and then go to watch tv simultaneously, live tv never comes up and I get thrown back to the mythtv menu.

Any ideas? Did I miss a step?

lspci -v tells me the system sees both the 350 and 250:

02:05.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC15 MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc.: Unknown device 4000
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 17
Memory at ec000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2

02:07.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc: Unknown device 0016 (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc.: Unknown device 4009
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 19
Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2

I tried cat /dev/video1 > test.mpg and all I get is a black screen.

well, sorry about this, as usual sometimes one can answer their own questions...

I went back into mythtv-setup and deleted all the cards and re set them up. The problem I had was that I typed in a 1 after where it said /dev/video. This time I used the arrows to get to that field and right arrowed until I got to video1.

Hope someone else runs across this thread if they have the same problem.

If one has a 401 installed, is adding a 250 or 250 kosher? ie. Are dissimilar cards acceptable, or must the two cards be like models?

dissimilar cards are fine. I personally have a leadtek and a pvr250.

Post subject:  Leadtech

How is the quality on the Leadtech card?
Was the remote easliy set up?

I don't really have any complaints with the quality. It's not quite as crisp as the pvr250, but it doesn't suffer from the interlace artifacts during fast motion either. I am not using the leadtek remote. I use the grey remote from the hauppage that works "out of the box"
