Completed my KnoppMyth installation last nigh. Kudos to the developers as it took me only a fraction of the time compared to my Fedora core install for my backend and first frontend.

This will function as my second front end. mb performance is slow, but I thought it would be sufficient to run as a frontend. I went ahead with a full installation as booting from CD wasn't going to work out for me in the long run.

Everything appeared to work sufficiently. When I accessed already recorded programs, the preview pane came up and although the image was jerky at times, I could view the show fine. When I tried to watch it full screen though, all I got was a lime green screen. I thought the system crashed/froze, but when I hit <ESC>, I bounced right back to the recorded shows menu. When I launched mythfrontend via console and watched for any out-of-the-ordinary messages, nothing kicked back. It's as if Myth thought everything was ok. Lastly, when trying to watch Live TV, same issue, lime green screen.

Any suggestions or should I get an RMA in order for this motherboard?

well my guess would be that whatever driver you are using for X doesn't support xv output and you have the use xv checked in setup. My guess would be that it defaulted to vesa cause it couldn't autodetect the proper driver. I'm not sure what driver would be used for that card or if you'll have to use a special driver, but It gives you a direction to look in. Also unchecking use xv color controls might get you a picture, but I'm not positive on that one.

Hmmm, interesting. Thanks, this is a good start. I didn't check XV off, but I'm starting to wonder if it is some sort of driver issue. I dismissed it originally as frontend works fine interface wise. It only acts up when watching TV. I suppose that would be an issue regardless of the distribution I use, correct?

well some distrobutions have better hardware autodetection and configuration. Knoppix which knoppmyth is based on is one of the better ones, but none of them get all the stuff that the other ones do, so it's possible that one of the other distrobutions might detect the video with the proper driver instead of droping back to vesa. Actually the interface working and playback not working makes perfect since if it's an xv support issue since the standard interface display does not use xv, but the video playback of any sort does.

and yes I know the little preview pane works, but from what I've seen that part doesn't use xv, because the xv color controls don't apply to it.

Ok, here's my plan. I couldn't find a driver specific to the video chipset. I did find drivers under viaarena.co for VIA PLE133T (northbridge) display drivers. No documentation for Debian though. Strictly Suse, RH, and Mandrake. Should I try and install the RH RPM?

I'm really new to this Linux stuff. Just when I think I have a handle on RH/Fedora, Knoppix gets thrown into the mix.

If my memory is correct, that motherboard is actually using a S3 ProSavage4 for the video.
