Will the tv work without the database of channels?

I had no problem with the KNOPPMYTH install. I set up the back end, but didn't fill the direct data set because I have a D-LINK GWL-520 extreme G card and I'm looking for the driver for it. (MADWIFI.NET?) so, I fire up the front end and hit enter on MYTHTV and all I get is 'green screen with static.'

Why is the mouse so flaky in the backend??? It appears and disappears making it difficult to control.

It won't work without the channel database filled in, because that's where mythtv gets the frequencies for tuning. It's like turning on a radio straight from the factory, it's not likely that it will be on a valid station.

The mouse is flaky because mythtv was designed to be used by a keyboard/remote thus the mouse is generally hidden by design.
