I wish to have a lowend masterbackend with no optical drive. It will just do recording and have 4 ide drives in it. I have a (Linhes) slavebackend/frontend with a 3ghz processor that has the dvd writer in it. My other frontends dont have dvd drives except the xbox.

Reading the forums I see that their is a knoppix terminal server for creating diskless frontends over the network.

My question is how do I create/install the masterbackend with no optical drive via the knoppix terminal server over the network?

whichever box you are going to be installing from put the KnoppMyth disk in and run prep-ts as root it should setup the TS for network booting.

Well currently you cannot have a LinHES setup without a master backend. MythTV needs a master backend. On any system with a optical drive, as root
Code:
prep-ts

well i have an existing masterbackend but I want to remove the optical drive from the ide secondary master and replace with another hard drive.

If i remove the optical drive i get all kinds of errors and it corrupts my master backend.

Tells us nothing. If you require help with this, then start a new post with the errors.

What I meant to say is that right now with my existing masterbackend.

I have the following:

1 ghz pentium
256 rdram
3 pchdtv cards
2 pvr 250

2 maxtor 7200 ata 100 drives ide drives attached via
Primary Master and Slave Controller.
1 maxtor 7200 ata 100 drive attached
Secondar master
hp dvd writer attached to the
Secondary slave controller.

If I install Knoppmyth via the dvd writer everything is fine. However if I then try to remove the dvd drive (physically unplug) and then try to connect physically the other ide drive.

I will begin to get dma errors that eventually cause the machine to boot super slow and never fully load.

Do I have to unmount the optical drive and then mount the new ide drive?

I guess you missed the part about starting a new thread.... KnoppMyth -> Installation is for problems installing KnoppMyth. Adding additional hardware which causes you boxen to act up isn't an installation issue. Don't answer this with, 'sorry where should I post?'. Read.
