I have an old Dell Dimension XPS T-500 which I want to try out MythTV and I am not making much progress. When the system boots, it hangs when it gets to the point where it is "accessing cdrom /dev/hdc."

The regular knoppix cd's boot fine, on some of the older ones, like more than 2 years old it would try to access /dev/sda1 and not work, but a "knoppix atapicd" took care of that and it would access the correct hdc device.

I tried the failsafe and knoppmyth atapicd as well as knoppmyth noscsi with the last 2 releases of KnoppMyth and it hangs at the same point every time. Note I tried the noscsi because it loaded a couple of scsi modules (Buslogic and something) and this old system doesn't have any scsi. And I don't recall any of the knoppix cd's having any scsi detection issues with this box.

At this point I am probably just going to install ubuntu, but I wanted to try KnoppMyth first and copy some of the configs it sets up.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chuck

Try using the "expert" option. I've run into problems where the autodetect of SCSI devices causes hangs. When you use expert mode it lets you say "none" and avoid this.

I tried that before too, and tried it again. Still not working.

Thanks,

Hi,

I am having a similar problem with a Dell Optiplex GX250 with a new installation.

It boots from the CD, and after running some detection stuff complains that "Can't find Knoppix Filesystem, Sorry". It then drops me into a limited shell.

Has anyone gotten an earlier version to work?

Victor

Most likely a bad burn or bad media.

Thanks for the quick response!

After I posted, on a lark, I changed the CD-ROM that was installed in the PC to a new DVD-R that I had just purchased, and voila! it worked flawlessly.

No, if I could only get my Hauppage Nexus-S working :?

Thanks to everyone's hard work on this.
Victor
