Post subject:  MySQL Fails

After I do the install -- I make it to the desktop with the XTERM running and myth config appears to be running it attempts to do something with MySQL -- it gets a whole bunch of errors about not being able to connect to the mySQL server and then attempts to finish out the configuration and get listings (which it can't for some reason) and then it launches a postage size window for a second with TV static/snow and then everything stops and returns back to the desktop. What on earth have I done wrong?

I don't know. The information you provided doesn't give much to go on... What errors did you get? Have to tried to manually start mysql and the backend? Did you do an install or upgrade?

Post subject:  Same problems with MySQL

Hi,

I have the same problems after the auto-installation process. In the end of the process when mythfrontend should be started a small window with video input from my tuner apears, but closes just after 2 or 3 seconds.

after booting, a file "mysql.txt" can not be found. (Unable to read configuration file mysql.txt) This file obiously tells myth what database to use because some lines below it says thatno database is selected.

Mysqld is started and runs! also myth-setup can not connect to mysql because no databse is selected.

In which directory do i have to put that mysql.txt in? it seems as this file is the only problem.

Thanx

Now I found that file in /etc/myth ! should be the right location. I chmod ed it to 777. But I still get the message that the file is not accesible.

That is by design xawtv starts for a moment because with some tuner cards you cannot change the brightness, contrast, etc.. Unless xawtv is started first.

Did you get cloop errors during the install? There is no reason other than cloop error that mysql.txt isn't found.

The file belongs in /usr/share/mythtv or in /home/mythtv/.mythtv/
You can find a copy in /home/mythtv/r4_src/myth-0.12_pkgs.

Well I did not get a cloop error either but got the same message, just did mv mysql.txt /usr/share/mythtv and BINGO I am now waiting for the xmltv listitings to finish.

Thanks for the program.

Bad burn. Try burning again at slower speed or different media.

Hi fellas,

I had the same problem reported above where the mysql.txt file was not found in /usr/share/mythtv and I had to copy it there after doing an "auto" installation.

Well I did several installations (testing) and I think I may have figured out why that is.

Durning install it asks you what you want to name your box. If you put something like "mythtv" or simply "mybox" it will fail to put the mysql.txt file in place and apache will fail to start up because it can't determain your fully qualified domain name.

However I found that during install if I choose a name like "mythtv.mydomain.com" or something like "mybox.mydomain.org" apache starts up as it should and the mysql.txt file is in place and the automated setup in the begining goes through just fine. No errors about failing to login to mysql etc.

Hope this helps. Perhaps the Myth install should give an example and tell the user to use a full name like "box.domain.com"

Thanks
Malcolm
