When I let myth run automatically (ie boot up>auto logon user mythtv, etc) the font size used is so small and tiny that it is unreadable.
This applies to things like the program guide, setup screens and even gnome app menus that I've installed after installation of KnoppMyth. (including GDM)
But, if I kill gdm (as root) and logon as mythtv and do startx then the font size is perfect! No problems with mythtv or gnome apps whatsoever.
Is this a problem with GDM setting a small font size?
Any idea on how to change this so that the font size used by standard logon is the same as the one used when I issue the startx command?
Thanks,
Hish
P.S. By the way, it is the same if I logon with a different user from GDM. I still get the tiny fonts. But if I do startx as a different user i get perfect font sizes. Also, this doesn't appear to be a setup problem with mythtv since the sizes and fonts selected through the GUI setup interface are unchanged.

Do a search, someone else was unsatisified w/ the font size and came up with a solution.

I searched the posts and all I could find was people who had problems with mythtv, program guide etc font size.
It seems to me that since the gnome apps suffer from the same problem there must be a different solution,no?

I am now having a similar problem that has started after setting up TV out. I've had KnoppMyth running for 2 weeks on my monitor with only minor issues.
Prior to setting up TV out:
- My menu fonts were pretty large, but very readable.
- Program guide fonts were filling their time boxes well.
In setting up TV out, I noticed my menu/program guide (PG) fonts got much smaller once I added the following line:
Option "MetaModes" "1024x768, 1024x768; 800x600, 800x600"
Once TV out was set up:
- I also am no longer able to switch resolution by hitting CTRL-ALT-+/-
- I commented out the MetaModes line I previously added, rebooted, but the font size stayed small
- In Settings, Appearance, I tried setting the font size for the various "types" to much larger numbers and was able to get changes in the setup screens but not the program guide nor the main menus.
- In settings, Appearance, the choices for "default, monitor:small, big" do not include an option for TV, although this is mentioned in the help text once this field is highlighted.
I'm sooooo close to having this ready for prime/time running in the living room. I'll play around with some of the ui.xml files this weekend to see if I can make any headway.
Any thoughts or hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-twylie
PS:
HW specs
- Asus P4P800 (on board gig ethernet still not fixed)
- P4 3Ghz 533 HT
- 1GB PC2100
- Happauge PVR-250
- nVidia GForce 440MX
- Maxtor 160GB 7200rpm/8MB cache
- Lite-On DVDROM/CDRW combo drive
- Antec Overture case
Picture quality is outstanding with live TV and my capture settings for all recorded shows is 480x480 3500 bitrate. Running about 5-7% utilization when recording.

Same results here. Running with the "nv" video driver my fonts were readble and well proportioned. Running with the "nvidia" driver and TV Out enabled they're too small and undersided for the display boxes. In the course of fixing my XF86Config-4 for TV out I also cleaned up some font path warnings, but I don't know if that's related or not. I'm pretty sure my resolution was/is 800x600 for both.
