I have a chaintech 7NIF4 with a DVD connected on the IDE and my hardisk is connected on the sata port.
I am not able to install knoppmyth on my HD. I tried booting with:
Code: knoppmyth ide=reverse ide=nodma But I alwase get this when trying to partition the HD (Auto Install): Code: ide-scsi: hda: unsupported command in request queue (0)
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:00 (hda),sector 0
ide-scsi: hda: unsupported command in request queue (0)
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:00 (hda),sector 2
ide-scsi: hda: unsupported command in request queue (0)
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:00 (hda),sector 4
ide-scsi: hda: unsupported command in request queue (0)
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:00 (hda),sector 6
/usr/local/bin/KnoppMyth-auto: line 608: / 1000000: syntax error: operand expected (error token is "/ 1000000")
I search the forum but did not find a problem like this.

did you look and see if there are any settings in your bios? I know many other people have mentioned a bios setting that worked for them. so a search of the forum might reveal something.

I did check the bios, the only options I found for the SATA was:
Code: Serial-ATA Enabled
SATA DMA transfer Disabled
SATA Spread Spectrum Disabled

Installs to SATA drives must be done manually.

The KnoppMyth manual install is not working. When I try to partition the disk I get this:
Code: Fatal dialog error:
Error: Expected at least 7 tokens for --radiolist, have 4.
Use --help to list options.
Do I have to drop KnoppMyth and install everything manually?
Can I add support to my SATA on a new CD for Knoppmyth?
Sorry for all theses dumb question but my Linux knowledge is very limited. It is getting better every day but it is still limited.

After doing lots of research I found someone talking about installing to a pata drive, updating the kernel, and then transfer everything to the sata drive.
Can someone help me to do that?

Why not just do a manual install? It requires you to answer a few more questions, but it should also be easier than what you talking about.

Huhn? Since when? Last time I booted a KnoppMyth R4V5 CD it was still a working option. BTW - You're the one who said you were doing an "auto" install and not a "manual" install.

I guess if SATA isn't part of the default configuration for R5, I'll hang on with R4v5...
When were those .17 deb's coming?

SATA works fine w/ R5. You simply have to do a manual install. It isn't that difficult.

To upgrade manually:
Do a manual install.
After the sytem reboots. Open an xterm.
Code: rm -fr .configure
touch .upgrade Restart the window manager or GDM.

It's interesting that the drives changed from being "hdx" to "sdx" device for the sata drive.
wish I'd have known about the .update thing previously... but, hey thing worked after fighting through the "add" lines in the ivtv module configuration...
