Post subject:  Upgrading to R4V2, minor problems...

Well, I finally got a second pvr250 last night, so I went ahead and made the migration. Everything isn't perfect yet, but here are some observations.

For whatever reason, when the upgrade procedure restored the database, the database seems to have lost the association between the recorded programs and the files that contain them. So if I open the "watch recorded programs" menu, I am provided with a list of the shows I have recorded in the past. Unfortunately when I attempt to watch one of those programs, nothing seems to happen. I started mythfrontend from a xterm, and see an error message of:

Code:
Error: file not found file not found
Error: file missing

The first line appears to happen the first time I hit the enter key on a file, the second any subsequent attempts.

In the hope that I could export some of the movies to videos for later watching, I ran the nuvexport program, which gives me the following message:

Code:
Found 25 files, but no matching database entries.

My suspicion is that when the database was restored, the path information didn't match the current configuration.

In concurance with that, I have gone through the settings a couple of times, Mythtv appeared to be configured to use /mnt/shared... for video files, though I was still able to watch recorded 'videos' (already recompressed with nuvexport) as well as different pathes for the recordings folder, and the cache in the mythtv-setup program. I believe that the backed up data was brought in before that. My suspicion is that the previously existing configured path (in mythtv-setup) was used to 'correct' the path information in the database, but adjustments were not made to correct that after the corrections were made.

I doubt this is specific to R4V2, but mixing bttv and pvr250 cards did not behave the way I expected. I was expecting the pvr250 cards to be allocated first, as they were installed in the slots closest to the agp slot. (first slot skipped as the cooling fan on the video card projects into that slot) followed by the WinTV 401 card.

I will have to do some testing this next weekend to see if I can get the drivers loaded in a different order so that I will record first with the PVR250 cards, then (and only if two shows are already recording) fall back to the 401 cards.

edit:
Having almost nothing to do with MythTv itself, and not KnoppMyth at all, but I happen to like the grey hauppauge! remote a bit less than the Streamzap remote. My primary complaint is navigation. I have had to switch to one of the "vertical" modes to navigate properly as the left and right buttons are useless in navigating the MythTv gui. They are fine for changing whatever they change during live watching, or as appropriate pre-recorded programing, but since no-one has mapped the keyboard buttons these IR buttons map to, to navigate the gui, all I can do is go "up" or "down".
/edit

Time to update my sig I suppose.edit:done for now /edit

I would have reported earlier, but my cable modem, cable router, et. all. decided to spend the day in a hissy fit, and I couldn't get back online in a consistent manner till an hour or two ago.

not sure why your happage remote doesn't use the left and right buttons, but mine does just fine out of the box.

As for getting the pvr250 to record first run mythtv-setup again remove all your cards and enter the pvr250 first then it will use it first. I have a leadtek and a pvr250 and the leadtek got detected as video0 and the pvr250 as video1, but all I had to do was define video1 first then it uses that card first.
