Post subject:  Should Knoppix-MythR4V2 install detect my PVR-350?

I ran through the install. I got a new 160gb and partitioned it:
5gb Sys
5gb Swap
10 gb PVR cache
140gb Recorded shows

After the install and a reboot it pulls up the configuration wizard for the first time. I run through that and then get the main screen. When I click Capture Cards it doesn't have anything listed. Should it detect my PVR-350 automatically? I can manually select it but I'm wondering that if it's not detected that perhaps the card is conflicting with another PCI resource or something.

I had to leave to come back to work (I was doing this during my lunch break) but the installation process is pretty straight forward. I'm just wondering what I have to look forward to when I get home......

I also plan on using PVR-350 for playback as well. :)

It is KnoppMyth R4V2.
If you look at the text when it is booting, you'll see it your card is detected. when mythtv-setup is ran, you still have to configure it by selecting what card you have.

Great, so if I don't see it listed during boot (I didn't remember seeing it listed during the install boot), then I know something is wrong? Just try another slot?

PCI - NIC, Audigy, PVR-350
AGP - Voodoo 5500.

I remember seeing that field during the initial boot for install and wondered why it didn't say PVR-350 found. :(

Well it sees the PVR350 during boot now. After running through the install a couples times it finally downloaded all of the program info (took about 25min).

Now when I go to TV - Schedule Recordings - Program Guide

I get the error, "Could not connect to the master backend server -- is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?"

I've read through all of the posts here that pertained to it (I believe) and I read through the MythTV docs for awhile but I have no idea how to get this thing going. :(

If I cancel past the error I see all of the shower listings, but I'm guessing I couldn't record.

Also if I click System Status, I get:

Myth version 0.14.20040123-1
Last mythfilldatabase guide update:
Started: 2004-02-26 22:06
Result: FAILED: xmltv returned error code 256.

There is guide data until 2004-03-06 3:00 (9 days)

Ok now I run mythbackend
and I get that
/myth/tv/nfslockfile.lock: no such file/directory

Unable to open lockfile

Be sure that /myth/tv exists and that both the dir and that file are writeble.

I accepted all defaults when I ran the CD Based setup.

are you root when you are trying to run the mythbackend script?

Ok, a couple mistakes I had...

I made a separate partition for the Live cache and one for the recorded files...but in the mythtv-setup I was pointing to generic directories that didn't exist.

...and yes, for mythbackend I was not su as root. I'm slowly getting the hang out it.

So I'm much closer, everything starts without any errors.

However, how do I point Watch TV to use the PVR-350 out?

When I click watch TV, on my VGA monitor I get static, on the TV I get nothing (it's set for Video 1 which is the svideo connection).

If you want to use the pvr350 tv out you'll need to search the board there are lots of threads about it, but be warned at this point it is not a trivial task.

Shouldn't I still be able to watch it on a VGA monitor connected to my vid card?

When I click watch TV without using PVR-out, I get static on my monitor. When I use PVR-Out my TV doesn't do anything.

I tried to record a show last night, the show recorded and I went to watch it. It's nothing but static.

I've ensure that everything is connected fine, I choice my Fort Lauderdale-Comcast from the provider and downloaded all of the listings.

Any ideas?
