Celeron 1.7
WinTV PVR-250 (the fix in forum didn't work, and is set)
AlsaMixer seems ok

alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
options snd major=116 cards_limit=1 device_gid=29 device_mode=0660
options snd-via82xx index=0

I want to of course record audio from the PVR-250's interface and regardless of how the recording works at this point, I can't hear _anything_ from the speakers.

I had a Fedora Core Myth .14 system using Jarod's guide on the same hardware and alsa worked without a problem then. Is there anything I'm missing?

Ok, I just did a nuvexport and when I ran the avi on my windows machine, I got sound, although it was off by many seconds. So sound input is working via my card PVR-250, however I cannot seem to get ANY sound out of my system, ANY help would be appreciated!

well of course the sound input is working it gets muxed into the video stream. as far as the output problem I really don't have a solution. your channels are not muted are they?

no, alsamixer works and I have unmuted everything I can basically... I don't get anything. I can't find "aplay" and I'm unsure of what apt-get commands I can run _safely_ where I can get that easily so I can diagnose alsa further.... I believe that's what the alsa site recommends at this point and I am happy to do that, I just need the tools.

Jesus, anyone wanna help me with how to switch to OSS? I've now re-installed KnopMyth and carefully re-done everything. Still no sound on a system where Jarod's setup worked with alsa no probs. This is really annoying!!!

If no one knows the solution, calling on Jesus isn't going to help a solution come by any quickier. No one is ignoring but they just may based on your perceived attitude. Do you know what the OSS modules are for your sound card? If, come remove the ALSA modules from /etc/modules and replace with the OSS modules. rmmod the ALSA modules and insmod the OSS modules or reboot. BTW: Why install KnoppMyth if you had a working FC1?

Sorry, no harm intended, spent all day yesterday on just this sound issue. Going to try again after a new MotherBoard ... gonna get rid of the VIA chipset which I think caused a DMA issue in both KnoppMyth and Jarod's Fedora based Myth install. Many posts about that. I called a BIOS upgrade company, but I have no idea if there even is a BIOS upgrade that would fix that issue.
I will report back my findings in a calmer state....

Oh, and as to why? Well this issue kept freezing the mythbackend with an ivtv timeout error, xmame didn't work, ripping dvd's didn't work, cd import/playback didn't work, plus, I liked the idea of KnoppMyth ever since I tried Knoppix and Gnoppix recently I decided it would be worth a shot. Thanks for the hard work, btw

:D

OK, All, I just replaced my PC Chips M925 series Motherboard in favor of an MSI MS-7005 board.

Sound works, I am testing to see if the DMA bug that was in my VIA chipset motherboard is fixed after a few days. It will take that long to determine if the system is completely stable.

My Audio problems might have been related to the via82xx driver possibly. This new onew uses Intel instead. ALSA loaded without a problem on this system.

The only additional command I need to run before I can view stuff is:

test_ioctl -p 4

I've read that values such as 0 (which is the default) and other values work for other people, but I have consistently needed the value 4 for that command between the Fedora Core and 2 KnoppMyth installs with the diff motherboards. The symptom if that value is not set is a black screen comes up when viewing livetv.
