I hope this isn't too noobish a question but I want the video hardware detection to run each time I boot (at least until I finish testing different video cards). I know the TV in-out detection is done but I changed the video card from one flavor of Nvidia to another with more features and XF86Config-4 still has the old card in it. I realy dont want to hand edit this since I have several cards I want to try. Is there a way to have the video detection run at boot? |

well not sure about having it run at boot, but as far as linux is concerned a nvidia card is just like any other. they all use the same driver, and it turns on or off features on the fly when X starts. this detection is done within the nvidia driver. Now if you are going to put a non nvidia card in this doesn't help you, but just thought I would let you know. |

Thanks for the reply but it did not answer my question. I have non nvidia cards also I might want to try. Seems like this is a simple question but I must not be putting the right search term into google. After all this detection runs during the install and the proper config files get written so I don't see why I can't run it whenever I want. But since I am a Linux noob I don't even know where to look on the install disk to see what program is run and what switches are set. |

BTW: Something must be hosed in my installation because after I changed the video card the tv out didn't work. But if i use nvtv to set the mode it works fine. I guess Ill just put a command in my .fvwm2rc file to run nvtv before starting myth. |
