Post subject:  installation problems

let me start by saying I am a total newbie when it comes to Linux, how ever I am very eager to set up a Knopmyth machine, and have tried it now for some days.

I have run in to some problems when setting up the box after installation and hope for some qualified help in a basic way.

my hardware conf. is as follows

ASUS A7N8X-VM (onboard GF4 GPU)
PVR-250
WD 80

when I run input connections in the setup part I choose Denmark as location, and then the XMLTV starts to fetch information, however it stops very quickly at 50% and hangs there...

Am I doing anything wrong? or is it nessesary to set up anything in XMLTV before starting the setup??

It really bothers me cause I cant move on setting up my box.....

Please help me out in an easy comprehensive way!!

It doesn't "hangs", it is trying to get the channel line up for your area. How long do you wait? Depending on where you live, how may channels you have, your Internet connection speed, this can take a while.

well I have waited for some 7 hours, and no change, not with apt-get update and apt-get xmltv and without it.... no changes.

I have a 6 mbit dsl connection, so I believe that my bandwith would be ok for the file to be downloaded pretty quicky right? isn't it a plain ascii file?

I live in Denmark, but is isnt a commersial DSL line... a buisness line, one of the few privileges from work in the IT world..... how ever would it be normal to take more than 7 hours, and will it halt at the 50 % untill the end?

Hi.

I had the same problem. It stopped at 50% so i tried to toggle the configuration window (alt + tab) and saw that xmltv was asking which channels to include in the .conf file. Try that and everything should be fine

If you get yours running correctly I sure would like to know how you did it. I've been trying to get mine to work for more than two months now and still can't get it. We share the same hardware!

I'm stuck on the same thing! I once succeded in completing the step by pressing some odd keyboard combination and in that way being able to see the terminal, but now when I have to reinstall I can't remember what I did!!! Anyone please help! How do we see the terminal instead of mythtv without quitting????

Post subject:  SOLVED!!!!

I think I solved the problem:
disable numlock and then press alt+tab

Bizty is right
