I'm having plenty of trouble getting ptune etc to work so that i can change my channels.

I keep seeing apt-get examples

apt-get install libvideo-frequencies-perl libvideo-ivtv-perl libconfig-ini-perl libconfig-inifiles-perl


but whenever i try them the files come up unfound. I managed to find ftp servers with frequencies and the ivtv .deb files, but i can't find the other ones anywhere.

really id just like to apt-get install them. I have tried update and dist-update, to no avail.

figure there must be a really easy way to do this, from the lack of info i have found

I don't know where you are seeing these examples, but those packages are not in any of the official debian repositories, so the place where you saw the examples should tell you how to add the repository where the packages are located to your /etc/apt/sources.list file. once you add the line to the file you do an apt-get update then the apt-get install package-that-you-want

Thing is, if its refrenced by ptune. Which seems to be the only way i can access my tuner. Shouldn't it be included in the distro?

well I'm not really sure what the pltune stuff is, I'm thinking it's part of the ivtv stuff, and that is very new. knoppmyth does not host it's own repositories, but relies on debian repositories and they generally do not include very new quite possibly buggy alpha bleeding edge stuff like ivtv(that would be a debian developers view anyways). The document you referenced included several repositories close to the beginning. make sure you have those.

As for the decss stuff it is not included, and most likely will not be included for a long time because it is quite illegal where this distrobution is developed. The fact that decss is simple to install though not included is rather amazing give the veracity with which the MPAA went after everyone even linking to it. This is a bad situation, and if you live in another country besides the US well that is why we even have it available, If you live in the US write your representatives and let them know you don't want Microsoft, RIAA, MPAA or anyone else controling how you can use your computer.

yes, i think ptune is ivtv.

i had the same problem.

one of the packages is available via CPAN, so you can auto-install it that way.
the other package is not. that's where i got stuck.

but you can download both packages here:

you need Video::Frequencies and Video::ivtv for ptune.pl to work.

download the gzip'd tar files and install these modules; to do so follow these directions from CPAN:
http://www.cpan.org/modules/INSTALL.html

you need to be root at the last step ("make install"), since you are writing into the /usr tree.

i think that R5 should include these dependencies,
but that's certainly not my call.

I managed to tune after adding the correct source and jst doing an apt-get
Compiling source in the correct directories is still beyond me though :s

Tried the tar.gz's but got totally lost after building them
