Post subject:  A7N8X problems.. despite all the success stories...

Hi,

I've got a A7N8X (delux, no less!) and I've got troubles.

First things first, yes, the md5 checksum passes with flying colors.

The system comes up fine with two exceptions. When I boot into front end mode, the keyboard doesn't work. When I install then boot the single backend/frontend load, the mouse doesn't work. The only weird thing about my system is that my keyboard is PS2 and my mouse is USB, but I've never had problems with that before...

The real problem however is that when I go to "watch TV" in Myth, I get an error message that says that it can't talk to my TV Card. The card is a Hauppauge 401 that has previously worked fine under Mandrake, running the default TV application. I couldn't ever get Myth to work with the A7N8X sound card, so I gave up on it about 6 months ago. The card + suond works fine under WinXP (ick).

Slightly less critical is that the system seems to only want to use 127.0.0.1 as my network address. I've got a DHCP server running (on a Linksys firewall) and don't have problems under WinXP (ick, again) or Mandrake. Not an issue yet, but it might become one if I do the old X-Box frontend trick.

BTW, it was a little disconcerting when I installed that it defaulted to wiping the entire harddrive despite having a WinXP partition on the drive. Perhaps the boot system could test to see if there's another operating system on the machine before offering to wipe the whole thing. :) But I do appreciate all the "I'M ABOUT TO ERASE EVERYTHING" warning before you actually do the deed.

Thanks!
Rudy

KnoppMyth was meant to be installed on a stand alone system(auto install). If you want to dual boot do the manual install.

Well, I made a lot of progress, but I'm not quite there yet.

I determined that my backend server wasn't running automatically. This turned out to be because a lot of directories hadn't been created by the creation script. I didn't debug why they weren't created, I just created them and chowned them to mythtv.mythtv. Among those directories were /myth/tv and /cache/cache.

So now the backend is running and the front end doesn't complain about not being able to find the backend. I'm even getting channels in the sense that I can hear the audio from them. The problem is that when I go to "watch tv" all I get is a blue screen (a blue screen of boredom, which is slightly better that death, I guess).

I've searched for blue screen problems and haven't found anything that solves them.

My system is a Asus A7N8X-delux with good memory and an okay processor (2000). I've got an nVidia quaddro 4 doing my video. And an Hauppage 401 for the TV. xawtv works just fine, even in full screen mode (though there are big black borders in full screen).

Any guesses?

Rudy
