Greetings. First of all, thank you for providing KnoppMyth. This project has made is SO MUCH easier to configure MythTV. I would be lost without you guys.
My hardware:
AMD AthlonXP 1700+
Asus A7N266-VM nForce-1 mATX
512MB PC2100 DDR
80GB Maxtor 7200rpm 8MB cache
LiteOn 16x DVD-ROM
LiteOn 48x24x48 CD-RW
Hauppage Win-PVR-250 capture card
USB2.0 PCI card (Via chipset), onboard USB disabled
64MB Geforce4MX AGP with TV-out (not using onboard video)
Onboard nVidia LAN
Onboard (Soundstorm?) audio
I've got KnoppMyth r4 set up pretty well and can play DiVX, DVD, MP3. I can check weather and news. I currently only have a VCR connected for a recording source, but I have successfully downloaded the XMLTV program information for my cable provider. I can't record from the PVR-250's S-Video input (yet), but I can record from the RF cable input.
My biggest problem right now is I get no audio when I record. Video looks good, and I can view and jump around in the video while I'm recording. I've tried a couple of different audio selections when configuring my capture card in knoppmyth-setup, but can still get no audio.
Is there any way that I can verify what audio source that I should be selecting when configuring my capture card?
Another problem that I'm having is that my CPU utilization jumps to almost 100% when I'm downloading the XMLTV information. I'm wondering if this is related to the nvnet driver, as I also get sound drop-outs when I SSH in while playing a DiVX video (I'm wondering if the nvnet driver is taking too much resource). I'm at around 97% free CPU when playing a DiVX video, but sound still drops out when I SSH in over the ethernet.
Oh, well. The XMLTV problem that I'm experiencing is the lesser of my two problems, but could someone please point me in some direction concerning my lack of audio while recording?
Thanks for any help,
E.

The volume may be muted...
test_ioctl -y mute=0
Or it may be low...
test_ioctl -y volume=60000

Thanks, that seems to have done the trick! Do I need to do anything special to make these changes stick, or will I be unmuted when I reboot?

Run Alsamixer and make sure you don't have the master muted. (M key mutes.)

I can't get any sound out of my PV-250 using live TV.
Playing a CD works fine.
using test_ioctl i can verify that it's not muted and the volume is set to 55000
using alsamixer i made sure each channel is not muted.
Are there any other reasons this could happen?

I have the same issue. I have a pvr250 and every time I reboot the machine the volume is muted and I have to run 'test_ioctl -y mute=0'
Is their some way I can save this setting on reboot?
thanks,
ken

I have the same problem - my mute is set to 1, but when I try to set it to 0 I get an ioctl FAILED error. I'm stuck.

The obvious place seems to be in "/etc/init.d/set_ivtv_params". However, that didn't work for me on reboot. Is there somewhere that a mute could possibly be occuring later in the boot process?

At least you are able to issue that command - mine fails. I'm stuck between thinking that the mute is overriding everything so I can't get sound, or that the input # that I'm using with the -v flag is incorrect for the stereo composite inputs. Anyone using the stereo composite for audio input? What # do you use?

Interestingly enough, after a reboot my Mute value was changed to 0. If I try swapping it to one, just for experimentation sake, it still fails, but at least it's stuck on the correct one now!
Anyway, using the composite audio and video inputs, my PVR250 captures video AND audio with -p 5 and -v input=2, output=1. I also went in and disabled a couple lines in my /etc/modules.conf file, because the console was spitting out some messages about it not liking some declarations made in that file. (modprobe was griping).
Now my only question is how to get it to work correctly with my DirecTV satellite tuner, which I'll start a new thread for.
Matt

I have the same issue. I have to run test_ioctl -y mute=0 after every reboot.

Has anyone figured out why we need to run test_ioctrl -y mute=0 after every boot-up?
It won't stick on my machine either...
Even if not, where should I put this command so it is run automatically on bootup before MythTV loads?
