If you're having problems with your 350 and need help, you should not post here. I deleted you previous post and will delete this one. |

I agree with LonelyOne that the pvr-350 is rather a tier-3. followed for 2 nights and days all the instructions out there. too many people out there for whom it didnt work. if it's a hardware issue, it should be pointed out here that the cards are not worth the many $$ you pay for them... now i am installing windows, just to see if the hardware is working at all |

Post subject: | IVTV version not up to date |
Here's the problem. Hauppauge changes thier cards almost every time they do a production run. So a PVR350 from 6 months ago doesn't use the same tuner the new ones do. For those of you that don't know what IVTV is it's the opensource driver for pvr250s and pvr350s. What that means to us is that when a new card is released the opensource community has to spend a significant ammount of time getting the drivers to support the new cards (currently the community is basically one guy: Chris Kennedy). I, unfortunately, have one of the new prv350 cards and I've been struggling with it for a couple months. A friend of mine who is a seasoned MythTV guru spent 4 hours hammering away at it and was able to get clear reception for a couple seconds before crashing. Here's what we came up with. From a terminal window you can test the input by doing: Code: cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg (hit Ctrl-C after a few seconds to stop it) Code: mplayer test.mpg
If you see static then the tuner is not tuning properly. This is indicitive of ivtv not properly detecting your tuner type. The lastest drivers (at the time) were #114b 0.1.10-pre2. We installed these (with some effort) and were able to get it to tune properly but it would crash every time after about 1 or 2 seconds requiring a power down. This is to be expected as 114 is very early in the deveolpment cycle. Based on prior experience 114 should be pretty solid in a couple weeks but for now it's pretty much totally unstable. Long story short we're all SOL until Chris can get it done. You can follow his progress at: http://www.poptix.net/ivtv/ |

I'm using R4V5 (MythTV 0.16) and I've gotten a lot of extra stability with my PVR-350 by turning commercial flagging off. I'm using ivtv 0.1.9a with the latest Hauppage firmware and ivtvdev as my XWindows driver. Perhaps that combination of things will help give you extra stability, too. My tuner type is 39, incidentally. As for the original German poster, feel free to contact me directly in German if you're having trouble with English. Lange her hab' ich fliessend Deutsch gesprochen, aber hoffentlich weiss ich noch genug, Sie zu helfen |

Post subject: | Possible fix for New PVR350 cards |
I'm going to be trying this out within the week. I'll keep everyone posted but I'm guessing this is the fix I've been looking for. BTW Chris is DA MAN! http://205.209.168.201/~ckennedy/ivtv/new_tuners/ |

OK OK it's been more than a week. We've had to change kernels and recompile with the new tuner mod, but we finally got it working. I suggest we move the PVR-350 to tier 2. Addendum: I would not recommend using knoppmyth with a new PVR 350, but if you're knee deep in it and want to try to do everything in debian (limited user support for ivtv and myth) I'm here to tell you it is possible but not a road I'd take again. Hindsight's 20-20 but if I had it to do over again I would have struggled through FC2. |
