Post subject:  Asus P4R800-VM

Have had lots of problems with this motherboard. I couldn't find much on the web about using it with Linux, so I risked it. Big mistake.

With R5A16, it hangs early when loading the bootstrap kernel. If I try a 'failsafe' boot, it gets further, shows the kernel recognixes the IXP chipset, and then gives errors on the IDE bus.

With R4V5, it will boot, install and reboot, but not configure an EtherNet controller. Trying to manually load a 3Com module gives invalid IO or IRQ parameters.

Wasted too much time already. A future 2.6 kernel may support this fully, but for now: Stay Away!

I think the R stands for Radeon (ATI graphics chip). There is also an P4S800 which has an SiS chipset.
