I guess the things I am kinda concerned/confused about are:

1) Is my USB support enabled (how would I verify)?

2) Proper editing of the modules.conf file .... still novice here?

3) Do I need to rid of anything from the Hauppauge remotes prior?

I think I am close - just those pieces.

Thanks very much for any help

1) USB support is enabled by default. The question becomes is the device you plug into the USB port or hub supported. That's what the ATI_Remote module installs.

2) Under the distribution style used for KnoppMyth, modules.conf editing is done by creating or editing files in the /etc/modutils/ direcory, and running the modutils program to merge the updated and new files into modules.conf. You are welcome to edit the modules.conf file directly if you choose, however you should be aware that updating your sound drivers could take out all your changes. That's why the modutil directory exists.

3) No. The Hauppauge remote uses an entirely different set of tools to work. When you install the ATI remote it acts as a keyboard device. Linux accepts multiple devices acting as keyboards, so you should experience no problems when using both the Hauppauge remote/s and the ATI remote.

The only caveat to the third point is that you may encounter problems using multiple IR devices simultaniously, or when the codes from one IR device conflicts with another.

ok, due to popular demand I'm going to do some editing of the file to make the ati remote more useful. I'll start a new thread and keep you posted as I progress.

You the man! :)

I think the following would be cool:

skip to next program marker (Z and Q)
increase/decrease volume ([ and ])
increase/decrease play speed (U and J)

Have you thought of any others?

LOL, I hadn't realized you put this into R4V2. I ran add_ati_remote and it worked perfectly. Thanks. :D

When R4V2 is released the remote will be detected! The module will load on boot! Unfortunately it doesn't load the modules needed before it, so I wrote a quick script.

add_ati_remote

The remote isn't detected on the USB bus, so there is no way to automate this...
Maybe if I have time next week, I'll work on a patch that make the remote more functional! THANKS Jesse!

:D
