Hello - I am in the process of setting up a remote frontend. I have configured the backend correctly, and can start up the remote and browse the program listings, and recorded prograams list. When browsing the recorded programs list I can see the preview of the recording so I know I have access and everything.

However, when I go to play the recording all I get is a black screen of death and the frontend seems to lock up (no esc.). I am running on a 100M local network so I dont think bw is the problem...or is it?

I dont think I missed anything..?. Any suggestions on what to try next?

Thanks
-Scott

Run the mythfrontend from an xterm in teh following manner:
Code:
mythfrontend > mythfe.log

If you cannot exit the frontend, you can still ssh to the boxen and view the log.

OK..I spoke too soon. I cannot view the program guide data, just the recorded program data.

I am not running this from the CD, I did a normal install and set the IP's in mythtv-config to point to the backend box.

I disabled mythbackend from starting on boot on the front end box. I get the feeling that I dot see guide data because I have not yet run mythfilldatabase on the front end machine. However, is that needed? I would think that I would be able to use the guide data from the backend box.

I did run the set up far enough to populate the channel listings.

Does the front end box get its guide data from the backend? Or do I need to populate the Front end with guide data also? I guss I will try to tackle the guide data problem before I tackle the playback problem.

The frontend gets everything from the backend. You don't run mythfilldatabase on the frontend. The frontend and backend must be running the same version. You don't needed to run mythtv-setup on the frontend. The log looks ok.
