Hi,
After a fresh install of R5D1, I added the most recent version of Firefox. What follows is based on hte wiki entry on how to....

Version is now upto 1.5.0.6 so install that with
Code:
wget http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5.0.6/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-1.5.0.6.tar.gz
from an x-term windox [alt-X, and su].
Code:
untar tar zxvf firefox-1.5.0.6.tar.gz

and the location to be set in Util/Settings, Setup, Info Center, Web Settings, change browser to /firefox/firefox not /myth/firefox/firefox as stated in the wiki.

If you hadn't worked that out yourselves!
Cheers all.

If you cd to the /myth directory before untarring the firefox package, then the next time you upgrade your system, it will still be there after the upgrade.

If you leave firefox in the /firefox directory it will be removed by the next upgrade.

While I certainly love the features of Firefox with Adblock and Flashblock extensions for TV webpage viewing, I couldn't quite get the whole feel down for using it with a remote...

Any suggestions? MythBrowser's simplistic keys seemed to work better with a remote, but it was popup city with some sites. Yikes.

I bought myself a wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse combo that I get out when i surf the net from the TV.
I don't do it often, as my tv is ony standard def it's not the easiest for reading text. But it makes typing in passwords much easier.

I have not looked into it, but maybe it would be possible to write a Firefox extention to use the remote/lirc?

My idea is to launch firefox with a wrapper script which starts irxevent first.

An exmaple of this I have working with frozen-bubble came from here

The keyboard shortcuts in firefox are deatiled here.

I just haven't got around to have to doing anything about it, as work has been demanding a lot of my time. But there are some nice plugins to help it look and feel like mythbrowser, see my post here

I have tried to install firefox as described in the wiki, but when I go to open a URL nothing happens. When I try to run firefox from a console, I get an error saying it cannot open linstdc++.so.5 because there is no such file or directory.

I have no idea what this means or how to fix it: Help please!

I got firefox working with flash9 and in-browser DivX player. I goto stage6.com and others for some interesting content. Most DVD quality.

It is used to check vital statistics on the fantasy boards while watch the games through the DVR.
