I just went to R5f1 from an older version I installed 18 months ago and I'm having all kinds of problems. I've found some solutions on the board here, but nothing for this: that the audio on recordings starts out sounding really good, but after a few minutes, it starts to "crackle" and "pop". If I exit the recording and come back in, the sound is all fine again. If I let it keep going, it keeps degrading to the point where it sounds as if there are extra channels gradually "lagging behind" the main sound and that's what is causing the crackling. Kind of like when divX audio and video tracks don't line up and gradually get our of synch, but imagine if there was an audio track in synch as well. I've tried alsaconfig, alsamixer, and alsactl store as well as enabling aggressive sound buffering within mythtv

It's really annoying having to exit and re-enter recordings every 5-6 minutes. It doesn't happen when viewing videos or listening to mp3s, only on TV recordings.

My hardware is:
- AMD Athlon 1Gh
- 764Mb PC100 RAM
- Hauppage 350
- ESS Maestro Sound
- Generic nVidia video card (sorry, don't know the model off hand)
