Post subject:  Unable to get cleat S-Video out for Australian TV

Hey guys,

I have the current version of myth TV installed on a 2GHz Celeron / 512meg ram with an ATI 9600XT video card and Leadtek DTV1000-T Tuner.

The install was completed with both a 17" CRT monitor and 68cm Samsung Television plugged in.
All was well until X started then the TV display became garbled.

Just wondering if anyone with similar hardware has been able to successfully get the correct signal coming out of the S-Video on the vid card.
I believe I'm looking for PAL-BG.

Any help appreciated.
This is my first MythTV setup.
I'm comfortable with a CLI, but am a novice.

Asside, can anyone link me to a howto to get wirless with WPA working.

You haven't mentioned the symptoms. "garbled" doesn't say a lot.

Have a look in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and post the last bit (the screen section). Also, have a look at /var/log/Xorg.log.0 and see if there are any clues.

Mike

P.S. Yes, there is an xvideo procedure, if PAL's the problem. Do the above first.

Is everything still good on the CRT monitor?

Thanks Mike, i'll take a look and post the content of the xorg config ASAP
Currently they physical location of the box prohibits plugging in a CRT or network cable.
I might fit off a longer patchlead across the house and report back later.

By garbled the Splash screen shows then when MythTV starts there are white lines across the screen and white dots down the sides.
Movement can be seen within the lines when anything happens on the CRT (like a change of menu or something).

Everything is fine at all times on the CRT monitor.

Ok, finaly here is the Screen section of the X11 config..

Code:
Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device "Card0"
        Monitor "Monitor0"
        Defaultcolordepth 16

Anyone able to help with this?

I added below that after reading somewhere it may help these following lines...
Code:
# Added my me
        Option "TVStandard" ""PAL-BG"
        Option "Connectedmonitor" "TV"
        Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO"

That didn't seem to help at all.

Here is a pic...

There's no "PAL-BG" as an option (http://http.download.nvidia.com/XFree86 ... dix-h.html), change it to "PAL-B"

Change Defaultcolordepth 16 to "DefaultColorDepth 24"

Assuming you're using an svideo cable (yes?)

And make sure that you're using a resolution, refresh rate and modeline appropriate to the TV. Ones for a PAL TV are going to be different from the usual NTSC ones. Different VertRefresh range (if memory serves 50-50 rather than 60-60), different resolutions, ...

Thanks for sticking with me.

I have changed PAL-BG to PAL-B and had no change.

I changed the Horizontal sync to 30 - 50 and the Vertical refresh to 50.
X failed to start, when the vertical was changed to 60 i got a different but still distorted screen.

It was good to see a change, it makes me think we're headed in the right direction.

It would be great to have this box on the network so i could copy my config files over for your viewing pleasure.

It seems we're on the right track, any more suggestions?

In the mean time i'm going to find out what i can about this TV.

There's a sample xorg.conf at http://www.kingcot.eclipse.co.uk/unichr ... g.conf.txt

Look for TV-PAL. You may have some luck. My gut feeling is that your horizsync may be a bit off (and possibly vertrefresh).
I know that when I have tried a singular number (as opposed to a range) I've run into trouble. My girlfriend's TV is absolutely ancient (HMV in wooden frame) and it still works, and in colour! I know yours can work, too.

Regards

Mike
