Hi,

I have started to have a need to access my myth box from outside of my home. Now when using winscp at home i just use the ip address (192.168.0.3) and port 22 and all is dandy.

I tried to set up a port forwarding rule using my router on port 22 to ensure that anything coming in on that port goes to my mythbox. However when i try that the router moans at me saying that port 22 is already taken. So im guessing i will have to change the port used by my mythbox. Would this work in theory and id be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

Many thanks

Howdy,

Depending on your router, you shouldn't necessarily have to use the same external port as the internal one you wish to access. You should be able to forward, say, port 2222 to port 22 on your mythbox.

Failing that you can change the ssh server config in /etc/ssh/sshd_config at the 'Port' line to another number too.

Regards,
Kirk.
