Post subject: | Transcode on another PC |
Hi, this is a question from a newb, but... If I copy an HD video captured via MythTV via an HDHomeRun device onto another PC--can I then transcode that video into something smaller like xvid? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I just want to get the 6 gig files down to something under a gig while retaining decent quality. I know I can use nuvexport on the same box, but my other PC is much speedier. Thanks for the help. |

If you had details on your system that would help. Under R5F27 there is a good included myt2xvid3 conversion script. It creates files in Xvid at about a 1200 bitrate. Good quality smaller files. |

Yes, but how would I do that conversion on another non-knoppmyth PC (Ubuntu 7.10 to be precise) that does not have anything myth on it? |

Actually, I did that. Then I did "man transcode" and my eyes glossed over. That might be the longest man page I've ever seen. Any tips on how to use that to transcode the file? |

Have a look at the code for Myth2xvid script it will probably tell you what you need to know. |

There might be options that will automatically resync things, but I've switched to using mythtranscode. Quote: I know I can use nuvexport on the same box, but my other PC is
much speedier. Take a look at what programs nuvexport is calling to do the transcoding and do the same thing on your other box. |
