Many videos (avi and divx) that I have downloaded have subtitle files along with them, is there anyway to use these files so that the subtitles show during the video in Mythtv? I have searched the forum on this subject but get nothing about this topic. :?:

I was looking at this script a while ago that plays the subtitles in mplayer. I was looking at it more for resuming movies but it also loads a subtitle file if it's there. It's at http://mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/2006-January/120397.html. The attachment has a bin extension but it's a perl script so it needs to be renamed with a .pl extension.

I think the answer depends on which player you are using. I for instance, use mplayer to playback my videos. If I have movie.avi and movie.srt (as an example), mplayer will automatically displayer the contents on movie.srt which playing back movie.avi.
