KM R5E50

i recorded a movie from tv.
length about 3 hours.
i made a cutlist for it (head and foot off).
i went the process to make a dvd-iso
i choose to not transcode the film.
wanted it for a single layer dvd.

mythburn produced the iso, which will fit on one dvd.
but on viewing it appeared not having used the cutlist.

i attached the progress.log file below:
it states it could not use the cutlist.

great mystery to me: i made cutlists (more complex ones) before (on shorter recordings); these all worked fine, were processed and the result was an usable iso.

what is to be done??

thanks,
rob

The problem is here.
Code:
2007-12-18 10:00:30 Failed while running mythtranscode to cut commercials and/or clean up an mpeg2 file.

This is where the cuts should have been removed.
Check your default transcode settings in setup.

## i can (will) check them, but what should i see (or not see)?

isn't it strange transcoding from other, but the same sort of recordings (from tv (actually from satellite); identical setup of Myth) before and after this demonstration of failure will give no problem at all?
the only difference i note (upto now): most recordings i did (and burned after making iso's) were shorter...

ssh into your myth box and run these commands:

Code:
mysql -umythtv -pmythtv mythconverg
select * from recordingprofiles;
quit

You will get a listing of you recording profiles. If all are set to null you need to setup the transcode profile.

You can also look here and find some additional information.

## i did do this, got a list with all positions on NULL
did a change in the setting,
when i do it again now, the listing of the recording profile is the same, but number 27 has changed and is saying now:

high quality (this was in this row before)
videocodec: RTjpeg
audiocodec: MP3
profile group: 6 (is unchanged, as before)

will this be sufficient to clear the problem??

thanks,
rob

Rob,

Sounds like you set the one for "High Quality" you also want to set the one for Default, as well and then you should be good to go!

## yes, i did it only for the 'High Quality' , and the only thing changed in that menu-point was ticking the box before 'lossless transcoding'..

do i do things right when going the following route:
main (screen)
utilities/setup
setup
tv-settings
recording profiles
* here i can choose between 'hardware dvb encoder'
and 'transcoders'
when choosing 'transcoders' i get on a list:
1. autodetect from RTjpeg/MPEG4
2. autodetect from MPEG2
3. high quality <<< this one i changed by (only) ticking the box 'lossless transcoding'
4. medium quality
5. low quality

so, i cannot choose 'Default' in this list (??? maybe i am in the wrong settings?)

thanks

Rob,

Go through the rest of the items in the list as well.

Code:
1. autodetect from RTjpeg/MPEG4
2. autodetect from MPEG2
3. high quality <<< this one i changed by (only) ticking the box 'lossless transcoding'
4. medium quality
5. low quality

Make the same changes in each one and I think you'll be good to go.

Then run the database select again and check the output

Tim

Here is what my default looks like

5 | Default | MPEG-2 Hardware Encoder | MPEG-2 Hardware Encoder |

Other than that everything is the same.

Try running a transcode now and see if you still get the failure.

I'll look around some more and see if I can figure out how the default gets set.

## did the transcode again.
same file
same cutlist

same result :-(

had some 'bad thoughts' about putting the KM-box out of the window on the 32th stock..

Well, hate to say but I'm running out of suggestions.

It is possible that the error is being caused by another problem.
Code:

Maybe someone else can help shed some light on this one.

## my thoughts:
mythtranscode "sees" the film is too long to fit on a dvd
when i let her do what she proposes: transcoding to SP, the machine works 8 (!) hours on this, and produces an iso that fits on my single layer dvd, AND with the cutlist used(!), but the resulting quality is that horrible (blocking in the scenes at movements, sound asynchrone(?)) that i only can discard the result as rubbish.

when i change the proposed 'transcode to SP' on the menupoint to 'don't transcode', mythtranscode produces a iso to fit on the single layer dvd, in good quality BUT without using the cutlist (so it is longer as it should be (and there is some space left on the dvd yet)).

so it is a real mystery to me what is going on.
as everyone other than you seems to be on holiday, i will be urged to tell the KM-box: "fly boxy, fly...."

## BUMP

why doesn't anyone have solutions on this that work???
up to now i have 3 of those big files (recordings of programs that were broadcasted 'next' to each other, so i could not make a recording 'pause' without the chance of losing film).

i want to stress *most* recodings can be processed to iso the normal way *and using a cut list* without problems.

key-wishes are:
i want to make single layer dvd's of them
i want to edit them to separate units (each film will fit on a s-l dvd)
i want to keep the high quality, so no transcoding

btw: i cannot play and look at them on my km-box, as this is to slow (videocard?): i get slow-motion and dropouts (for all recordings, so it will be a hardware problem of the km-box)

there should be nuts over here who know what to do!

nuts: where are you?????

You could try running a "Lossless" transcode first. It will only remove your cutlist and only reencodes at those frames.

If those Cutlists are set at Key frames then the reencoding is essentlly stictching the two pieces together. I find if the two keyframes are a black screen I can barely tell the transition even when moving single frame.

That would then shorten the length of the file and then the machine would need to do even less processing to put all the feature on a single Layer DVD.

Hope this helps.
