My DVD playback (using built-in DVD player) is incredibly dark. TV is OK, but also kind of dark (not as bad as DVD's at some sections). Is there a way to adjust the overall brightness for Myth playback? I tried xvattr and set the brightness higher, but saw no change in the screen. I may not have used xvattr right (is there something you need to do after adjusting the value, like doing a "commit" or rebooting or something?).

Any help would be appreciated. I will look and see if when I adjust the brightness/contrast on my TV if it does it only for that particular input (because cable TV/Playstation, etc are all fine - only myth tv/dvd playback is dark - the OSD's and menus, etc are fine).

If your video card and driver supports it you can enable the Xv picture controls which will let you fiddle with the overall brightness, contrast, color balance, ... For nVidia cards you can also use the nvidia-settings utility to tune up your picture.

The PictureQualityIssues wiki page covers this and much more.
