Hi,

Machine running R5C7 fine for months then frontend and a couple of xterms ceased to responded.
I could open a new xterm from the desktop in an attempt to kill the others. xserver restart cleared deadwood but could not do alt x for an xterm. Even "gasp" did a reboot but still alt x doesn't work. All my other alt keys work ok and I haven't changed anything in weeks (maybe even months)

Any hints? Not a major thing as I don't use it much as a "media box" other than tunes & weather.
Mike

Hi,
Working with a modification...

As an up date, I removed the " -fn *18* " , restarted xserver and now I have my alt x back. Still no clue what I did to loose it but must have something to do with fonts? (Haven't changed nor added anything new recently)

once in an xterm execute the command below and see if any errors appear

Code:
xterm -fn *18*

Hi,

Interestring, xterm: bad command line option "PC:<my-zip-code>_files"

usage: xterm (a bunch of options...
(over a dozen lines of options)
Type xterm -help for a full description.

And the connection with the zip code?

Thanks
Mike

THis happened to me under R6 -
I was installing wireless drivers and I borked something with fluxbox and it would not drop to xterm from the frontend with alt-x.

I removed the -fn *18* and alt+x worked again from mythtv

It also borked my nvidia-settings as well.

ces't la vie!

I think it was TJC that explained what was happening with the -fn *18* that it was because the * are of course wild cards. So when you do an alt x it looks in your home folder for a file with *18* in the name.

Doing -fn '*18* ' (single quotes) disables the wild card part and I believe sets font size to be 18.

Just ran across this the other day myself on a R5F27 rebuild :) Doing a ps ax displayed a pid with a xterm picture18.jpg entry. Fortunetly there is a default font size so it still worked.

Just put the ticks around the *18* in the /etc/X11/fluxbox/keys xterm entry. Haven't checked R6 to see if it is needed or even if there is the same path.
