km r5e50
some 7 Gigs free on the harddisk (now)

after some not using the KM box i did a recording.
i edited that recording to cut some parts off and out.
method as usual and proven to work.
using the cutlist i made files for a dvd (iso image).
i copied that to another machine to burn the dvd.
i played the dvd on my standalone dvd-player, finding i
had not found a very short piece of stuff i want to get rid of.
so i wanted to do the editing again.

BUT:

when i want to 'watch' the recording (to go to editing with the
M-key), there is some hd-activity, then some silence, then a
(the) screen pops up: 'you have finished watching, do you want
to delete/save for watching again'
i am UNable to watch the recording fullscreen, but at the same time
the preview (right bottom edge) is running fine and showing the recording.

after finding this problem with my last recording, i tried the same with the recording before that (the last minus one), SAME problem: cannot watch the recording.

a went back some recordings (think 4 or 5) to try this: found one that could be watched...
so i took steps towards the end (of the recording-list), now all i tried could be watched, the 'last minus one' too (!!) but the last one: NOPE

what can i do to cure this problem (and being able to re-edit that recording)?
space i have on the disk is about 7 Gigs now (i have done things with less space)

thank you!

Hrm, perhaps you might have a bookmark set right near the end of the recording. There's an option in the recordings screen menu to 'Play From..." then "Beginning" or "Bookmark".

strange...

when i go to the blue menu: 'select a recording to watch' and i "emphasise" the 'problem-recording' i don't see an open book-icon (when checking F1: it says this icon stands for 'bookmark set') at the bottom left of the screen....

in some other recordings i do have that bookmark-icon though (these are no problem-recordings)

so i do think there is no bookmark set in my last recording.

btw: didn't find the way you described in the options, but that may be obsolete.

i don't know if it (this) is part of the problem:

i scheduled the recording on may, 12 (short before midnight)
the recording started on may, 13 and ended after 90 minutes.
the recording shows up May 13 ..... (and other stuff),
the files could not be found with *20080513* as part of the name
(in /myth/tv)
they appear to be present with *20080512*.mpg as a name.
i have now the original recording *20080512*.mpg.old
+ the smaller *20080512*.mpg + the *20080512*.mpg.png file.
(my setting is 'keep original file', so this is normal for me).

could it be there is a problem with may 12 and may 13 ??

The recording file name is based on the date and time that
the recording was started, so the 12th is correct.

The seek table may be messed up, especially if you have
been renaming recordings or otherwise moving them around.
You might try (I think as user 'mythtv'):
Code:
mythcommflag --file recordingfilenamegoeshere --rebuild
which will rebuild the seek table.

I know that once you generate a cutlist (as opposed to simply
having a commercial skiplist) you can't say to not use it. If
something happened with the cutlist so that it was the whole
recording then you would get symptoms like you describe.

From a keyboard, you might try playing the recording and
immediately pressing E (like before it even starts to play) to
see if you can get into the cutlist editor.

You might try (I think as user 'mythtv'):
Code:
mythcommflag --file recordingfilenamegoeshere --clearcutlist
but you will have to reenter the cutlist if you do that.

You may try renaming .mpg to .mpg.new and then .mpg.old
to .mpg and then rebuilding the seektable, skiplist, and cutlist
as noted above.

i did the two actions you mentioned in the 'code' lines, using the original recorded file.
it worked for me, so i could watch/edit the recording again.

thank you for the helping hand.
