Hello all, been trawling through the forum but not been able to find a definitive answer to this Question.

Is there any way to play AVI files saved to a DVD/CD from within MYTH TV.

I store a lot of stuff on DVD so as not to fill up my HD, each AVI file is in a folder on the DVD. I cannot find a way of navigating round a DVD within MYTHTV and selecting an AVI file to play. I dont really want to start copying these AVI files to the HD to watch as this would soon fill it up and I want all the space I can get for recording TV and music.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Great site this, other threads have save me a bundle of time.

There should be a link to the optical drive in your video directory - /myth/video/cdrom
Code:
root@black2:~/scripts/backup# ls -al /myth/video/cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mythtv mythtv 10 Jun  5 00:36 /myth/video/cdrom -> /mnt/cdrom

I forget if there's also some video settings that you need to diddle to make it show the stuff on the CD/DVD in the video menu under MythTV 0.20.2, but a bit of poking through the setup screens should provide the answer.

Assuming you are using KnoppMyth, which release? We've had scripts that took care of this in the past. However now with MythTV (and our touches), you should be able to view them in MythGallery or MythVideo (I use MythGallery myself..).

Thanks cecil and tjc, I'm using Mythbuntu 8.04.

Can these additional units, MythGallery or MythVideo be added?

Thanks for your help.

You meant they're not already there? :?

If not they should be available via ap-get...
