Just in case anyone else was trying to make this work, I thought I'd document how I got mine working. Caveat: I don't know if this will effect any of your other DVB devices. It didn't effect my Avermedia 771 DVB-T Card The useful links are: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-4000 http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_install_DVB_device_drivers Since there are a lot of similaraties between the Nova-S2 and the HVR-4000 this may also work with that card, but as I've not got one, I can't try it. Everything should be done as the mythtv user, I'll show when you need to use (or stop using) root privileges with the "su" and "exit" commands So, first things first, you need to apt-get the mercurial source code management system: Code: su apt-get install mercurial exit Then (following the how-to-install dvb link): Code: hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb cd v4l-dvb hg update make su make install exit So, we now have an updated v4l, but it also needs the correct firmware for the card. This is documented on the HVR-4000 page, there are three firmwares to choose from (v1.20.79.0, v1.22.82.0 and v1.23.86.1) but the latest one wouldn't work for me so I'm using (and documenting here) v1.22.82.0 Code: cd ~
wget http://www.wintvcd.co.uk/drivers/88x_2_122_26109_WHQL.zip unzip -jo 88x_2_122_26109_WHQL.zip Driver88/hcw88bda.sys sudo dd if=hcw88bda.sys of=/lib/firmware/dvb-fe-cx24116-1.22.82.0.fw skip=75504 bs=1 count=32501 sudo ln -s /lib/firmware/dvb-fe-cx24116-1.22.82.0.fw /lib/firmware/dvb-fe-cx24116.fw This downloads the windows driver file, extracts the firmware and copies it to the correct location on your hard drive. I then rebooted and was able to setup the card in mythtv-setup. |

Hi Mephi, Nice work on sorting out the Nova-S2. I liked the look of the S2 over the original S (for longevity) and was thinking of upgrading to freesat a while back, but didn't. Your apparent success renews my enthusiasm. A little project for Christmas then! I'm thinking of upgrading my system now as a lower cpu overheads for HD are coming thanks to the new nvidia driver. Oh, btw, does OTA listings work with this card? Cheers |

Hi tophee, OTA Listings seem to be working fine. I can't yet play content captured from BBC HD. Sometimes I get nothing, sometimes I just get stuttering sound and sometimes I get stuttering sound and pictures. But I've got to do some work to check the XvMC is all working and that I've got the best drivers, config, etc.... |
