Thanks Marc for all your help. I got it working following your directions, and made some very slight additions to the Wiki as I went along.

I can't seem to replicate that error you are getting with some of the streams. But if/when it pops up, I'll certainly try to figure out what is going on. I am not sure if the reason is because I've downloaded random codecs and modded/updated ffmpeg to get MythWeb Flash working? Does it happen upon load? Or in the middle of watching?

For others who venture with this, the ubuntu forums also has a helpful thread, which Marc already contributed to.

Some other notes:
1. Don't try fast-forwarding a video until it has buffered a decent amount. Otherwise, it will just end the stream. This can be a bit annoying if you stop a video mid-watch and open it back up later. With this I imagine if your buffer reaches the end, it won't pause like say at Hulu.com and re-buffer, but rather just die?

2. For those that don't like the offensive language, I saw someone on the other forum edited streamsui.cpp. (I didn't bother)

3. I can't seem to get any BBC streams working, but all others work ok. It says flashnormal isn't available. Maybe the links don't exist?

Quote:

P.S. Someone please let me know if discussing the optional NZB feature of MythVodka is allowable here?

@marc - just got your pm about this thread. Anyway, is mplayer totally broken, or does it work with some formats but not others? If it's the latter, which file types is mplayer choking on? You can find out w/ mediainfo. Also, can you post the output of manually running mplayer on the file that doesn't work?

For example:
Code:
$ cd /path/to/media
$ mplayer name_of_media.mkv

Using mediainfo (don't get the gui) is trivial:
Code:
$ mediainfo homevideo.avi

graysky, thanks for helping out. I will install media info and provide the info, but I do have 1 question: It looks like the download file is a ".deb" -- how do I install it? All my install experience is from either doing a build or use apt-get.

mplayer is not totally hosed -- it only fails on a file with a particular type of codec. I use a product named "Media Player Classic -- Home Cinema" on my windows box and the problematic file works there. Through a process of elimination I was able to determine that MPC-Home Cinema uses the codec "H264/AVC (ffmpeg)" to play this file. I don't know if that helps at all.

Once I get your instructions on installing from the debs I will report back the results from mediainfo for the problematic file. Thanks again for your help!

All, wiki instructions have been revised. Step 11 is critical; step 5 is there for those that are interested.

@marc - I don't think there's anything wrong with mplayer... flashvideo may simply not a in the codec pack! If you can post that file somewhere, I'll give it a try on my mplayer and let you know for sure.

garysky, I am 99% certain that the issue is a missing codec, so I guess the question is: How do I install that missing codec?

You guys rock. I followed your instructions on the wiki. They were perfect. I had one problem.

I kept getting a Xine window popping up. I was really confused. Then I remembered I had changed MythVideo default player to Xine. Changed it back to Mplayer and I am golden. My wife and I are in Hulu heaven. Thanks for your hard work. I love Knoppmyth and especially this community.

You might wanna start googling around for that particular format and mplayer. I haven't run into a format that wasn't covered in the essential codec pack before.... if you followed my guide, you have everything in there. Do update the thread when/if you find a solution.

I went thru the steps on the wiki easily enough. However when I now click the MythVodka program, I get to 20% and then it blows back to penguin on couch. Any idea's?

Too Many,

This is what fixed it for me:

11. Edit the file get_iplayer and add the line "${name} =~ s/\&//g ;" at approximately line 4059. Your goal is to change this

print XML "<movie title=\"${title}\">

${pid}.mov<playlist/>

<info>
${desc}
</info>
</movie>\n" if $opt{fxd};
print XML "\t\t
\n\t\t
\n\t\t
${episode}
\n\t\t<Synopsis>${desc}</Synopsis>\n" if $opt{mythtv};

to this:

print XML "<movie title=\"${title}\">

${pid}.mov<playlist/>

<info>
${desc}
</info>
</movie>\n" if $opt{fxd};
${name} =~ s/\&//g ;
print XML "\t\t
\n\t\t
\n\t\t
${episode}
\n\t\t<Synopsis>${desc}</Synopsis>\n" if $opt{mythtv};

The Wiki has been updated since the first time I tried.

Give it a shot.

Mike

Me too - on a nearly new 5.5. I think it's blowing up while downloading.

Thanks. I did try this, but the file looks a bit different for me. This is what I'm seeing before altering.

Code:
print XML "<movie title="${title}">

${pid}.mov<playlist/>

         <info>
${desc}
</info>
         </movie>\n" if $opt{fxd};
         print XML "<Stream>

         <Synopsis>${desc}</Synopsis>
         </Stream>\n" if $opt{mythtv};

It seems like maybe the code I downloaded was changed? I also saw this post, which is exactly what I'm seeing. But I don't see a fix (at least I didn't understand if one was described)

mikemcc11, glad the instructions worked for you!

Too Many Secrets -- I suspect you are editing the wrong location in the file. Search for the string 'print XML "\t\t
' (without the single quotes on either side) and add the new line just prior to that line. I just uploaded my edited version of get_iplayer to the wiki and attached it to the mythvodka wiki page -- try downloading it and diffing it against what you have. md5sum of the file is 2acf256cd4df1cadeea2438f9a8c9050

mikemcc11 & Too Many secrets, run the mythfrontend from an xterm and see if you get any error messages in the xterm when the front end dies. This happened to me at one point, but I don't recall exactly what I did to resolve it, but post the output in the xterm window and I'll see if I can help you out.

graysky, I'll read those instructions and see if they help on the missing codec. The good news is that this doesn't prevent me from using mythvodka -- it winds up to be a separate issue.

Marc

OK, I've gone a step further. I've created a tarball that contains all of the files I built and attached it to the wiki page as file "mythvodka_for_km55.tgz". If you untar it, it should place a pre-built version of all the files in all the right places. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, so I can't guarantee that I got all the file, and I'm headed off the get some sleep, but if you try it out, let me know if it works for you. You still need to do the following:

1. It only places the themes in the default theme directory, so you'll need to copy "streams-ui.xml" from either default or default-wide to the theme directory that you use. (Like step 8b in the wiki).

2. You will need to do step 18 by hand, as I didn't include that file.

md5sum of tarball should be
847780afd04c9314143caf9a0762e9ac
