Hi,
is there a way to transcode my recorded videos in the frontend?

Thanks,
René

Not with nuvexprot. You'll have to use mythtranscode. Sorry I cannot provide details as I have not used it. Check the MythTV docs and or the MythTV archive.

you can transcode the files in the frontend. when you are playing back a recording you hit x. Note however that this will just transcode the file to whatever format you have setup in your transcode profiles, and the resulting file will still be a .nuv file that can't be played on another system that does not have mythvideo support. Nuvexport on the other had will allow you to export the file to be played on other sytems.

the .nuv file generated by the transcode from with the mythtv frontend is in whatever format that you desired in the transcode profiles...

So, if I chose mpg4 (xvid I presume?? - the frontend doesn't specify divx or xvid), simply by changing the extension to .avi, I should be able to play it on a windows box?

My understanding is that if I choose mpg4, the file is a mp4 file and it is just the name & extension that are *.nuv simply for Myth Frontend to identify as a video file?

The mpg4-format used by mythtv is in a internal format. To playback these (and the nuppelvideo files) in Windows use the dsmyth directshow filter.
