Post subject: | Webcam problem |
hello. I installed knoppmyth without any problem. I plugged in my USB webcam. Hotplug detected my webcam but when i try to use it, a message notifies that device cannot be opened. Quote: #vidcat -b /proc/bus/usb/ -s 300x240 -f jpeg > /home/user/test.jpeg
Can't open device /proc/bus/usb/ I tried with the webcam servers: "w3cam" and "webcam". PS: my webcam is a Philips PCVC720K. Has somebody already encountered this problem? Thanks for your help. |

I'm not in front of my boxen at the moment, but I think install-pvc(if I remember correctly) should correct this. |

pwc is the module for the webcam. There is a problem with the newer module. You need a binary only module in addition to the regular pwc module to get it to work. That script takes care of it... add-pwcx, should hopfully get you going... |

I tried the script, and got the following before it exited: root@mythtv:~ # add-pwcx Warning: kernel-module version mismatch /lib/modules/2.4.21-xfs/kernel/drivers/usb/pwcx-2.4.20.o was compiled for kernel version 2.4.20 while this kernel is version 2.4.21-xfs /lib/modules/2.4.21-xfs/kernel/drivers/usb/pwcx-2.4.20.o: unresolved symbol pwc_decompressor_version /lib/modules/2.4.21-xfs/kernel/drivers/usb/pwcx-2.4.20.o: unresolved symbol pwc_unregister_decompressor /lib/modules/2.4.21-xfs/kernel/drivers/usb/pwcx-2.4.20.o: unresolved symbol pwc_register_decompressor /lib/modules/2.4.21-xfs/kernel/drivers/usb/pwcx-2.4.20.o: Hint: You are trying to load a module without a GPL compatible license and it has unresolved symbols. The module may be trying to access GPLONLY symbols but the problem is more likely to be a coding or user error. Contact the module supplier for assistance, only they can help you. Does this mean that it put the files in place and they won't work, or it never installed anything? |

yeah, I guess I misunderstood. I thought this was for ANY personal web cam (pwc). Do you know if this script is run, does it make any permanant changes or is it wiped after reboot? I can get tv out of my second tuner from the command line, but don't get it in mythtv? |

Personal web cam(pwc), that is a new one for me... Anywho...The script does make permanent changes(won't be good other wise...). Quote: I can get tv out of my second tuner from the command line, but don't get it in mythtv? Don't really tell me anything... If you have an issue with a tuner, please start another thread under the appropriate section. Better yet, search the forum, I'm certain you can find steps need to take to figure this out.
