Post subject:  Save a closed caption transcript

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to save a copy of the closed caption text for a recorded program. I want to be able to save closed caption transcripts of some shows I've recorded. How does MythTV store this information? I know it's in there somewhere, because it handles the closed captions independently of the TV.

Thanks,

juz10mac

if I'm not mistaken it's not independent of the tv, it's in the vbi or first couple of lines of the video file.

There is a program from SourceForge called ccextractor that I've used. It will extract the closed captions into a text file.

Just started to play around with this. What I didn't realize until I now is that the default setting is to save it off as a .srt file. This is some standard file format that will allow players like xine and mplayer to display the captions. Now I can add the captions back into shows that I have re-encoded into xvid. Cool!
