I am trying to burn a 1.5 hr movie onto a DVD. I have a PVR-250 so it is a mpeg 2 video file, but when I try to burn it, the file is larger then 4.7 gig. Any advice on a way to either encode or shrink the file to fit on a single DVD? Any help you could provide would be great.

Thanks

Shawn

I have not burned a DVD, so I cannot help you. No one can help you with the information you've provided. There are several tools can can use to create a DVD, which are you using? What resolution/bitrate did you capture the video at, etc.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try to provide you with some more information. as for the bit rate and such I really am not sure, just have it on the default I believe.

This is the process that I use. I copy the file from my myth box to my XP box. I then rename to a .mpg file. Then i use Roxio 6 to create the DVD however the movie is over 6 gigs when it try to process this. I am wondering if there is any way to shrink this down to a smaller size??

Hope this clears it up a bit.

is it over 6 gigs when you move it to the xp box? this sound excessively large for a 1.5 hour movie at default res/bitdepth generally the defaults give you about 2.2g/hr

This forum isn't the place to ask about creating DVDs on XP (PERIOD).

I realize this isn't the place for an XP Discussion, I wasn't trying to find out about doing it on XP. I was trying to see if in Myth there was a way to condense the file by using MythBurn or something like that.

Perhaps based on Xsecret's post I have the settings changed to a higher setting or something like that.

Thanks guys

most likely whatever program you are using is transcoding the file, because the default setting is 640x480 which is not a valid dvd resolution. you could try changing your resolution to 720x480 which should eliminate the need for transcoding.
