Has anyone looked at BeyondTV from snapstream.com? I would be interested in hearing what other folks thought of this package and how it compares to MythTV. Thanks.

I used to use Snapstream/BTV before going with MythTV last December. I used Snapstream for about two years (yeah, I got in on it pretty early). Overall, the software is promising, and did perform fairly well for my purposes.

BUT, the thing that drove me away was the support, or lack thereof. Their devel team constantly made promises about release dates that came and went only to release another release date a month or so down the road. These guys definitely don't work on weekends. They seemed to focus on adding new bells and whistles to lure people to buy their product while they left known issues unresolved. I suppose if the software were free, my expectations would not have been so high but when you start charging people they feel they 'deserve' some level of support/updates. I can't see ever switching back.

As far as features go, MythTV has them beat hands down. I see that they are working on add-on (and presumably not free) modules that will let you play mp3s, dvds, etc. The only thing that I know BTV does that MythTV does not do is integrated network streaming via the web (ala media player streaming).

The installation section is for KnoppMyth related installation issues or questions related to the KnoppMyth install process. I don't mind folks asking question related to another PVR or Linux distro, but this isn't the place to ask.

I tried out Beyond TV and found that it had some nice features, but i found that the quality of the picture in Beyond TV was horible in comparison to WinDVR 2 and MythTV.

One feature I did like in Beyond TV is the only record new (no re-runs) feature in Beyond TV.

Correct me if i am wrong, but doesn't myth only not record a rerun if it has already been recorded by myth?

Beyond TV will look at the listinging and see if it is a rerun and record base on that.
