I have an old winterm 9440 that was a Sears Auto Center POS. the Setup menu is password protected. I have tried the software and hardware reset procedures I found online with no luck

Seems to boot into an unprivilaged account.

anyone got experience in this area?

Thanx

Have you tried this:

Quote:
To log in as administrator hold down the Shift key while logging out of the user account
until you get to the login screen, then enter the user name and password for the administrator account.

well, that hadn't tried. it does get me to a login screen but I dont have a user/password. The system seems to auto login as a non-priv'ed use.

Thanks for the input. What I really need is a way to blast away all of the configs. Where did you get that quote, maybe I can dig a bit more.

I've read that these things can be reset via a remote management tool, which of course I don have.

The factory default username and password is "Administrator" if that doesn't work you will need to flash the terminal with a "base image" and this will set everything back to a default system.
