Lately I've been running out of space one again and could not resist Fry's latest Seagate 400gb for $99 :D . So I was looking for a elegant solution to scale out my 400gb myth box to 2-400gb drives.

Storage Groups look really promising and it will be out with Myth 0.21

Does anyone know any more about this?

i was just promising myself that I would not upgrade anymore because it takes so long and I am finally running very stable.

And this comes along. For people with slave backends like me, this seems like a great idea.

I will resurrect many of my smaller drives if this works and gain the use of the slave backend hard drives.

I am currently saving to a nfs mount of the master backend's /myth/tv directory.

The only downside I see is needing to have your slave backends always on. I have this anyway, since my slave backend is always being used as a frontend.

It would be cool if I could have an old headless computer as a slave backend that can hibernate. It could keep rarely used recordings, like movies and archived home-movies or pictures or even previously watched shows. This "archive-backend" say could save energy by being off most of the time.

In the mean time you can you LVM, but the problem you have with this is that you need to backup your current data to transfer your stuff across to an LVM.
