Sweet. Thanks for the heads up. Now the big questions

- to LVM or not to LVM?

- add the disk then upgrade, or upgrade then add the disk?

Remember, with the upcoming "storage groups" feature, you won't need an LVM to expand the storage. IMO, storage groups will be easier and less risky, than dealing with LVMs.

I agree, storage groups will help spread the load to multiple hard drives without the need for lvm (lvm has other features like snapshots for backups, etc that most aren't using anyway) and reduce cross network bandwidth by storing recordings on the slave backends on which they were recorded.

But when will storage groups be available?

You can get it right now by installing from the MythTV "trunk" via svn.

As far as I know a slave backend is not required, you can use the storage on your frontends as well (if I'm reading the tickets correctly). I'm still not sure whether the additional storage will be available to videos/pics/music or just recordings.

In .21. But as Mike pointed out, you can download/compile from trunk and play with them today. There's a script around here to help with that, do a search for "compile SVN" and look for the post from Watto...
