In my local Costco today I saw that they are selling Seagate's FreeAgent 750GB External hard drive for $199. This price is also available at Costco.com. USB 2.0 / eSATA / Firewire interface.

Fanless?

I can't find any real specs anywhere.

Seagate's pressrelease points you to

http://www.seagatefreeagent.com/

A completely blank page

http://www.seagate.com/freeagent/

A 100% flash crap-fest with lots of graphics and zero content.

Don't know. I didn't buy, but thought others may want to know.

A friend of mine bought one of these over the weekend. He says it runs cool-n-quiet (even under load--he was backing up several smaller data drives to it) and has no fan in it. I can't confirm or make any promises, but that's what I was told.

FWIW, this product got a _lot_ of bad reviews at newegg. About
1/3 of the reviewers reported that the eSATA interface didn't
work. Others reported that eSATA was slower than USB 2.0.
