Both of my KM machine mother boards have taken a dive and I am hunting for a new and improved replacement. The AMD 3800+ processors are ok so I am just looking for a mother board. Has anyone had experience with ether

ASUS M3N78 PRO with on board GeForce 8 series Video
or
BIOSTAR TForce TF8200 A2+ with on board GeForce 8 series Video

From what I have read is that the Asus chipset runs hot. I also see that the Biostar has about 4X the heat sink of the Asus but I haven't found any good reviews for that board.

Anybody have any real world experience with these board or some thing similar.

Hello

Last weekend I just upgraded my box to an Abit AN78GS motherboard with AMD Dual Core 5050E (45W) Processor. It's an 8200 chipset and so far so good. Works perfect with Knoppmyth 5.5. I really like being able to use on-board graphics. It is ATX and has three pci slots. :D

I have 2gb of ddr2 800 memory. I hope to test it out with VDPAU when myth .22 rolls out final.

Hey there,

I've just upgraded to a M3N-H/HDMI board, and its a beauty... not sure about heat etc, but it runs a lot cooler than the prescott thing i was running before.

It's good to know that the GeForce 8 series on board video works in R5.5 without having to update the video driver. I am also trying to prepare for the next release with VDPAU drivers. I also wanted the third pci slots so I have room for a modem to receive caller ID information. I looked for the Abit AN78GS but couldn't find it for sale anywhere. RacerX where did you find yours and what kind of $. nmcaullay your M3N-H/HDMI looks identical to the M3N78 PRO that I can get here. Do you think your 8300 chip set runs hot when under load?

Hi there,

Not sure about hot, as the case is "uncovered" due to the zalman cooler being too big for my old case. It is shoved in a drawer, so that doesnt matter anyway..

I'm not using VDPAU yet, was sorta waiting for R6 to go "gold".

What method can i use to measure temp of the onboard 8300?

Is it a simple test to try VDPAU and compare load/heat?
