I bought a 160GB Seagate Retail Hard disk few months back from fry's. It came with a $50 rebate. I filled in everything and sent in rebate form, upc and the works and it was accepted by Seagate.
Now seagate says it can't honor the rebate it since the serial number is not right. I have contacted Fry's but so far no response. They seem to be selling Seagate disks with rebate for quite sometime. So beware of any rebate purchases from Fry's/Seagate. Has any one else faced this problem from Fry's/Seagate.

A friend mentioned something about Fry's having a sale on drives last week where they explicitly stated "no manufacturer's rebates apply." That almost sounds as if Fry's made a deal with the manufacturer(s) to get the rebate directly.

But that's probably different from the problem you're having.

I did a quick google and it appears lots of people are encountering lots of "duplicate serial numbers", "no serial number submitted" and general "delays w/o good explanation" problems with the seagate rebates.

You did make a copy of everything before submitting it, right?

Looks like lot of people are in the same boat. I never had problems with buy.com or any other store. And there are many complaints about fry's and seagate in slickdeals.net.

Anyway I located the copies I made and sent it again. Let us see what they say now.

I'm keeping an eye on mine. I don't know what "scheduled for final processing" means, but I hope it's good. :)

I bought a Seagate 120gb drive at Outpost.com at the end of last October and received the $50 rebate check last week without any problems.

I also bought a Hitachi 250gb from them a few days later and got $40 of the $60 rebate I was due and an email promise to send the other $20 (they admitted the mistake at the beginning of December before I even got the $40), but I am still fighting with them over when I'll get that $20. We'll see...
