I find the "new posts since last visit" pretty effective. I can usually spot the ones I'm following which have new additions.

I wish there were a was to view post since a provided time. I always use the 'since last login' but If I dont get through all of the posts or the login time gets reset (new browser window) then it can be difficult to locate new posts.

If someone can find a 'board' that does this, has other advantages over phpBB2, I'm willing to listen.... :)

Im with you k. A number of times I have accidentally closed my browser and then I cant easily see the recent topics that I have yet to read. Perhaps we should suggest it to phpbb.

I poked around and found this on the phpbb support forums. I don't know much about web design but i think this may be helpful. It gives a time period for looking up posts.
